Hopper/Toilet
Price- $199.93
The top flange is drilled to accept a standard seat as shown which is not included
but can be obtained at your favorite hardware store. This unit will fit a 12 5/8"
hole and has a 1 1/2" tail piece below the 16" diameter mounting flange. Be sure
there is adequate ventilation to the pit. The Army uses a 4" vent for each toilet
and does not use a covered toilet seat and claims the unit is free of flies. With
good ventilation and a standard covered toilet seat, latrines are reported to be
fly free. Extra gaskets or special seats have yet to be required. There have been
no reports of fly or odor problems for installations with good pit ventilation.
The Army Corps. of Engineers has some of these units in latrines located by their
boat ramps and they use a 4" tall vent for each toilet/hopper, have not used seats
with covers and report that they are fly free.
BSA National Engineering is a scout source of information for the latest in pit
design.
